Silver Dollar City Presents the Giant Swing, Spring 2007

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Silver Dollar City® - considered one of the top theme parks in the world – has an exciting surprise set to be revealed this spring! Opening for Spring Breakers in 2007, Silver Dollar City® presents a brand new seven-story swing, featuring roller coaster speed and high-flying thrills!

Silver Dollar City® is an 1880’s theme park that takes visitors on an exciting journey back in time, and the park has an amazing new development in 2007 sure to delight visitors to our Branson hotel. To create it’s newest electrifying ride, Silver Dollar City® combined the old-fashioned fun of a barn swing with high-tech, modern power. Enlarge this to massive proportions, and you have the Giant Swing!

A $6 million project, the ride will launch theme park visitors more than seven stories in the air – and nearly upside down – at roller-coaster speeds. This spring, guests to our Branson hotel can experience what Silver Dollar City® calls “barn-bursting, high-flying, super-soaring, big-air thrills!”

Located within a huge hay barn in the new “Great Barn” region of the park, the Giant Swing’s two massive arms hold back-to-back seat rows, allowing riders to soar backward as well as forward. Compressed air power propels the swings, shooting riders 75 feet high in opposite directions and through the barn roof before sending them back toward the ground.

Flying past each other up to 45 miles per hour, the swings then soar 75 feet into the sky, high above the trees, arcing a full 230 degrees so riders nearly hang upside down. The ride’s incredible acceleration offers “back-to-back G-force kicks” and feelings of weightlessness for a “full throttle, high-flying thrill ride.” Families who visit our Branson hotel are sure to be impressed!

In the spring of 2006, Silver Dollar City® presented the Grand Exposition – an $8 million, two-acre expansion with ten new family rides that soared. Those who stayed at our Branson hotel and visited the park were blown away by the addition. Imagine the fun your family will have at our Branson hotel this year surrounded by such spectacular attractions!

Holiday Festivities Light Up The City

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Celebrating the true reason behind the season, Branson Missouri’s 58th Annual Adoration Day Parade is a unique nighttime event sparkling with float lights and rejoicing in the merriment of Christmas.

The purpose of this parade is to “keep Christ in Christmas” and to allow non-commercialized groups to build festive floats that honor the holiday. Began in 1948, the first Adoration Day Parade made its way through Historic Downtown Branson, Missouri, bringing the community together to celebrate the reason for the season. Now more than half-a-century later and with the same objective in mind, the event has grown to become a Branson holiday tradition.

The parade starts in the evening and as the beautiful floats glow with holiday lights and cheer, individuals with luminous sources of light gleaming off their outfits line the street. In addition, Branson Missouri’s downtown shops, homes and churches are always beautifully adorned with lights and decorations to add to the joyous occasion.

Not only are the visual effects breathtaking and the auditory experiences pleasing, but so is the spirit amongst all those who attend. Floats toss sugary candles to spectators. Churches open their doors and invite you in. And the aroma of the season permeates throughout as kids of all ages remember what the season is all about.

This is an event worth planning a trip around. And the perfect place to stay during your visit is the always-festive Chateau on the Lake, a Branson hotel that brings the holidays to life.

Visitors Enjoy An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Silver Dollar City, one of Branson, Missouri’s most frequented attractions, recently initiated their traditional Christmas festivities, referred to as “An Old Time Christmas.”

A two month long celebration, “An Old Time Christmas” allows for nearby guests from such Branson hotels as Chateau on the Lake to travel back in time, where they experience holiday amusements as if they lived during the late 17th century.

This year, Silver Dollar City introduced a new musical entitled The Living Nativity to their line-up of live Old Time Christmas shows. Performed to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the play allows Branson hotel guests to become immersed in a musical retelling of this time-honored tale.

Another alteration to Silver Dollar City’s usual holiday festivities includes the addition of a Magical Snow Globe Scene in the park’s rendition of A Dickens’ Christmas Carol. Acclaimed generally as “The most grand production show ever performed at Silver Dollar City,” the 55-minute play features accomplished performers, amazing special effects, Victorian scenery, elaborate period costuming, and a new song to accompany its new scene.

Visitors from Chateau on the Lake hotel Branson can access additional live family entertainment around every corner during An Old Time Christmas festival. Other holiday-related show titles include Christmas on the Bayou, Frontier Fa-La-La Follies, Holiday Hearthside Harmonies, Tinker The Talking Christmas Tree, and A Christmas Homecoming.

Although a dominant form of entertainment for Branson hotel guests visiting Silver Dollar City, shows and productions refrain from being the only form of holiday recreation. Rides and attractions continue to run throughout the park and are decorated to suit the Christmas season.

Each evening at 5:30, a five-story “Special Effects Christmas Tree” is lit. Adorned with over 250,000 lights timed to blaze and change to the music of Christmas songs, this unique tree presents classics such as “Carol of the Bells” and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” in an awe-striking light and sound show.

Lunch with Santa is also available on select dates in November and December, during which children take pictures with Mr. & Mrs. Claus, participate in sing-along songs with Santa’s friends, and receive special gifts.

Millions of Sparkling Reasons to Drive Through Branson, Missouri This Holiday Season

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Visitors to Chateau on the Lake, a fabulous hotel in Branson, Missouri, delight in a unique and magical holiday experience throughout the month of December, as the city offers several holiday-themed shows, special Christmas events, great shopping, and - perhaps most famously - spectacular drive-through lighting displays.

Running from November to the New Year, the Branson Area Festival of Lights (BAFOL) offers Branson hotel guests millions of sparkling reasons to visit the Ozarks each winter. A tremendous and moving presentation, Branson’s customary Festival of Lights features over five million Christmas lights by which approximately 31,000 vehicles pass during the holiday season.

This year, the Branson Area Festival of Lights returned to the Branson Hills Parkway, located just off Highway 65 north of Branson. Only minutes from the Chateau on the Lake, the festival serves as the centerpiece to what is collectively referred to as the celebration of an Ozark Mountain Christmas.

The Branson Area Festival of Lights began on the first of November, when Branson Mayor Lou Schaefer flipped a large switch to ceremoniously turn on all of the lights. The widely recognized lights display returned this year after a one-year absence due to construction in the area of the display. The show is back “with a larger route and more displays,” BAFOL board member Jerry Adams said.

As they travel, spectators enjoy a variety of traditional, contemporary, religious, and secular holiday scenes. These include an animated “Twelve Days of Christmas Display,” Santa and his leaping reindeer, sailboats on the water, an inspiring nativity scene, and many more. Guests at the Chateau on the Lake Hotel Branson are welcome to join the community-wide celebration, as all of Branson is aglow for the holidays.

The 2.5-mile route is one mile longer than in the past and boasts of approximately 100 more displays. The route starts at the same place it always did but at its end features a surprise. There, the drive-through features a new attraction for the younger guests of the Chateau on the Lake - Santa Claus. “On Friday and Saturday nights . . . there will be an area for kids to visit with Santa Claus,” said Adams.

Although the Branson Area Festival of Lights exists as the largest drive-through light show in Branson for Branson hotel guests, two similar exhibits are also available for the enjoyment of Branson hotel guests. These include the Shepherd of the Hills Trail of Lights, arranged on West Highway 76, and the Port of Lights, found off Highway 13 in Kimberling City.
