Visitors Enjoy An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri
Silver Dollar City, one of Branson, Missouri’s most frequented attractions, recently initiated their traditional Christmas festivities, referred to as “An Old Time Christmas.”
A two month long celebration, “An Old Time Christmas” allows for nearby guests from such Branson hotels as Chateau on the Lake to travel back in time, where they experience holiday amusements as if they lived during the late 17th century.
This year, Silver Dollar City introduced a new musical entitled The Living Nativity to their line-up of live Old Time Christmas shows. Performed to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the play allows Branson hotel guests to become immersed in a musical retelling of this time-honored tale.
Another alteration to Silver Dollar City’s usual holiday festivities includes the addition of a Magical Snow Globe Scene in the park’s rendition of A Dickens’ Christmas Carol. Acclaimed generally as “The most grand production show ever performed at Silver Dollar City,” the 55-minute play features accomplished performers, amazing special effects, Victorian scenery, elaborate period costuming, and a new song to accompany its new scene.
Visitors from Chateau on the Lake hotel Branson can access additional live family entertainment around every corner during An Old Time Christmas festival. Other holiday-related show titles include Christmas on the Bayou, Frontier Fa-La-La Follies, Holiday Hearthside Harmonies, Tinker The Talking Christmas Tree, and A Christmas Homecoming.
Although a dominant form of entertainment for Branson hotel guests visiting Silver Dollar City, shows and productions refrain from being the only form of holiday recreation. Rides and attractions continue to run throughout the park and are decorated to suit the Christmas season.
Each evening at 5:30, a five-story “Special Effects Christmas Tree” is lit. Adorned with over 250,000 lights timed to blaze and change to the music of Christmas songs, this unique tree presents classics such as “Carol of the Bells” and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” in an awe-striking light and sound show.
Lunch with Santa is also available on select dates in November and December, during which children take pictures with Mr. & Mrs. Claus, participate in sing-along songs with Santa’s friends, and receive special gifts.
